Preparing Your Home For Carpet Installation

Getting new flooring installed can be daunting, especially if it is your first home or if you haven’t used the flooring company before. Here at Joe Walker’s Flooring, we want to help with preparing your home for carpet installation. We pride ourselves on our customer service, just look at what some of our previous customers had to say.

Before Your Carpet is Installed

1 – Know Your Measurements

It is important to know your room dimensions before you start looking at flooring options. Certain carpets, like tartan or prints, may require more material than you think to ensure a consistent look. We offer a free measurement service to help you with this. Arrange for one of our flooring experts to come and measure your room, answer any questions and offer advice on how best to achieve the look you want. This helps you be as prepared as possible before selecting your carpet.

2 – Pick You Carpet

You can view a selection of our carpets online or pop into store to have a look and get advice from our flooring experts. With over 300 types of flooring available we are sure to have the perfect carpet for you!

3 – Get Moving

One of the most important ways of preparing your home for carpet installation is to clear the room of any furniture the day before your carpet is due to be installed. By moving all furniture, objects and other materials from the rooms to be carpeted our installers will be able to get your new carpets installed as quickly as possible.

On The Day

4 – Be There

Make sure someone is home on the day you have arranged for installation. By being there in person you can help us ensure the correct carpet is installed in the right areas and any patterns are facing the desired direction. This also lets you ask us any questions on how to get the best out of your new carpet and keep it looking like new for longer. At Joe Walker’s Flooring, we not only want to help with preparing your home for carpet installation but also to get the best value for your money.

5 – Safety First

A variety of tools and material will be used to install your new carpet, this can make the installation area hazardous. Make sure your children and pets are kept out of the work area during the installation.

6 – Clear the Air

Once your beautiful new carpet has been installed by Joe Walker’s Flooring make sure the room is well ventilated, especially if you are sensitive to odours. Some of the chemicals used when your carpet is being made can have an odour lasting for as up to 48-72 hours after installation. Make sure the room has a good air flow by leaving a door or window open.

7- Shedding

A natural part of any new carpet, expect some shedding in the first few days after your carpet has been installed. Daily vacuuming during this time should remove any loose fibres and leave your carpet looking stunning.
